Thirteen years since their debut album, Physical And Mental Intensity By The Torture, first snared the attention of their now long term label, Brute! Productions, Nicaragua’s Fleshtorture have unveiled the album of their tempestuous career. An enraged assault upon the bastions of religious doctrine, Grotesca Doctrina De La Perversidad (Grotesque Doctrine of Perversity) is death metal personified – its blasphemous battalion of songs a formidable force, armed to the teeth with god slaying riffs and blast beats with the power to hammer down the gates of heaven.

Ever present members, bassist Hanry Cano, drummer Rudy Wolf and vocalist Xhugore are joined by guitarists Lenin Galo and René Schock on the first new full length release from Fleshtorture in a decade. Their musicianship and song writing skills have reached new levels as the years have passed which has enabled them to return with an album whose accomplished consistency is staggering. The songs range from all out, vehement high velocity strikes like ‘Flagelando Almesías (Flogging The Messiah)’ to surging, heavily armoured brutes like ‘Tumba De Niños (Children’s Tomb)’ – and every one of them is laced with venomous atmosphere and hides moments of wicked exhilaration within their terrifying blackened depths. An extra degree of impact has been assured by the mixing and mastering skills of Chris Wisco (Jungle Rot, November’s Doom, Origin etc) and the artwork of John Quevedo Janssens (Those Who Bring The Torture, Sinister etc) ensures that Grotesca Doctrina… looks as glorious in its magnificent damnation as it sounds.

Allied once more with Brute! Productions, champions of the underground, Fleshtorture are prepared to cast down deceitful deities and plant their standard of war in the suppurating flesh of death metal’s ever living corpse. No death metal fan can afford to pass this album by; Grotesca Doctrina De La Perversidad is relentless, unstoppable and quite unmissable.

(review) Mayhem – Atavistic Black Disorder/Kommando e.p.

Mayhem

Norwegian black metal legends are back with new e.p. Mayhem released an e.p. containing 7 songs. First three songs, called Atavistic Black Disorder side of the e.p. are left overs from Daemon sessions and I may say that these songs are absolute Mayhem tour de force. From Voces Ab Alta which is a fantastic black metal hymn, across Black Glass Communion filled with Attila´s chanting and reminding me a lot of legendary De Mysteriis, to Everlasting Dying Flame which is for me my personal favorite of this opus. Kommando side of e.p. is band´s hommage to punk anthems which influenced the band and its members throughout the years. Covers of Discharge, Dead Kennedys, Rudimentary Peni and Ramones include guest performances by Messiah and Maniac, former singers of Mayhem and that all sounds great, but it is no match for original material side of this e.p. This e.p. serves as an addendum to Daemon album and shows how strong this black metal institution is right now. One of the best black metal bands ever.

Ashen horde release new non-album single – Archaic convictions!

Progressive black/death metal band Ashen Horde has released a new standalone single, “Archaic Convictions”. The single is a tie-in to a new fantasy novel, “City of Iron and Dust” by J.P. Oakes.

Says Ashen Horde founder Trevor Portz, “J.P. had heard about our collaboration with Markisan Naso on his story “To Mega Therion,” (resulting in the limited cassette release, “Black Curse”), and asked if we’d be interested in doing something for his novel. After reading a synopsis of the story, in which the fae seek to rebel against their goblin oppressors over one long bloody night, we knew it had to happen.”

“Archaic Convictions” delves into the struggles of those fighting against oppression and tyranny in any form, the central theme of the novel. Written by Portz, the song contains all the elements Ashen Horde is known for: technical riffs rooted in black and death metal, but stretching beyond either; brutal-yet-emotional vocals from Stevie Boiser (Inferi, Equipoise); controlled chaos drumming from Robin Stone (Norse, Virulent Depravity), and prog-inspired bass via Igor Panasewicz. The artwork for the single was done by the insanely talented Jonathan La Mantia (jonathanlamantia.com).

“We hoped to capture the essence of the novel in four minutes of metal insanity, and I’m pretty confident we did it” notes Portz.

Ashen Horde was formed in 2013 by Portz, and the band has released three full-length albums and a number of singles and EPs since then. Their most recent album, “Fallen Cathedrals,” was released by Extreme Metal Music in 2019 and received widespread critical acclaim.

“Archaic Convictions” is available on all major digital platforms, as well as on Ashen Horde’s Bandcamp page (http://ashenhorde.bandcamp.com). The band recently signed to Transcending Obscurity Records, with their fourth full-length album slated for release in 2022.

“City of Iron and Dust” is available digitally and in print wherever books are sold, courtesy of Titan Books.
