Japanese Northern19 are back with a new release. I must admit that with the exception of Hi Standard, which I used to listen intensely back in the nineties, I don`t know almost anything about Japanese skatepunk scene. This release contains 4 songs of sweet mixture between skatepunk and pop punk, done in a ultramelodic way with some fast parts thrown in like that almost grind drumming part of Drain and nice typical skatepunk song Yes. This is nice punkrock done with heart and soul and I really loved listening to these four songs. Acoustic beginning of Letter leads the listener into mid tempo epic song like reminding me a lot of Useless ID, in fact the whole record reminds me a lot of Yotam Ben Horin and his boys, which is great, because the music is awesome. Nothing But My Heart is for me the favorite on this release. Good one from far East!
Chief State are coming from Vancouver area, Canada and this is their new one, that is out for couple of months now. There are seven songs on this record. The music on this record is beautiful pop punk/melodic punk played with lots of energy and vigour. The strongest point of the record besides awesome songwriting skills are the vocals. They sound fantastic, almost ethereal and backing vocal harmonies are so sweet, that I wish to hug someone while listening to the record. The lyrics of the songs are something that all of us can relate to. The songs that are somehow personal favorites of mine are Reprise and Peace of Mind. Great record by the great band.
Well, we continue with nice melodic/pop punk on this day. Cat In the Box are coming from Novodvinsk, Russia and are playing just that.
This is their new release, that came out a little under one month ago. There are intro plus six songs on this fine record and the music is haha space pop punk as the band says on their Bandcamp page. The music reminds a lot of early Blink 182 and similar bands and the lyrics are about love, skating, riding bike, Tom Delonge hahaha, also there is one really nice acoustic song called New Feelings to which I can really relate to lately. The title song is also one of the highlights and best songs on this record, besides Me And You. I really like this one.
