D.O.A. are back! The Canadian hardcore punk legends are celebrating their 40th anniversary! 40 years! That is my current age! This is their new album and I listened to it and reviewed it for this webzine.
My friend once wrote that only old people listen to D.O.A. and he was kinda right. I first listened to this band via tape that one of my best friends in life gave me around 1994. or 1995. It was some greatest hits tape and I remember that “Disco sucks” immediately made me love this band. Fast forward to 2018.and the new album. Joey Keithley and his gang deliver the new batch of 13 songs that are both likeable to punkrockers and the hardcore kids. Now, even 40 years later, the problems are the same and there is still no compromise by these Canadian veterans. “You need an ass kickin´ right now” is a kick in the ass, a wake up call same as “Killer cops” and “Time to fight back”, very melodic punk song. “Gonna set you straight” is a very dirty sounding song with anthemic chorus. There is almost country vibe with a punk attitude in “Wanted man”, so the album has a very different sounding vibe in some songs, but all in some hardcore punk area but with maybe a wider scope. Good album.
Babe Patrol are hailing from NYC and were formed in 2011./2012. In the beginning they were more of a riot girrrl punk but through the years they evolved into more melodic and skatepunk band.
This new e.p. contains four songs. “Breathe” opens up filled with haunting and almost ethereal beautiful voice by the vocalist Jewels. She creates such epic melodies with her voice that made goosebumps on my skin. The record continues even better with “Can´t relax”, song with great ooo singalong chorus and fast energetic punkrock guitar riffs. Just when you think it can˙t get any better “Hide the trail” sweeps you off your feet being in my opinion the best song on this record that makes me wish that I wrote it. “911” closes the e.p. and leaving me desperately wanting more and waiting eagerly for the new full length record. This is one of the finer records that I have listened to lately.
The Sadists are horrorpunk band from Hartford, Connecticut, USA and this is their new record that I listened to and reviewed for this webzine.
Everyone who reads this webzine knows our love for horrorpunk and horror culture in general. I am always happy to discover new and great horrorpunk bands in that small, but beautiful scene. This music just keeps me alive somehow, besides punk and hardcore of course! This record contains 11 songs with two being covers by Dwarves and Cancerslug, one being bonus Christmas horrorpunk anthem. The music this guys play is more of a raw horrorpunk with screaming vocals that often turn into nice melodic anthemic melodies. Somehow they remind of the two before mentioned bands but with retaining a great dose of originality. The song “Bride of the Monster” features the guest vocals by none other than Michale Graves and it is in my opinion the best song on this record, not necessary because of the Graves vocals which I adore, but because it is an awesome song. I also love “Black Christmas”, “Wish I Was Dead” and the bonus song is awesome “Merry Fucking Christmas” although is is the beginning of Summer. Nice horrorpunk album full of energy!
