(review) Hangtime/Altitude/The Huile – PCT Musique Split Vol 9

a1205418014_10

The good people of PCT Musique label continue to release great stuff. Their splits introduced many awesome band from the scene that I didn´t know before. But this time it is a full punch in the eye with this ninth split release of three bands. Hangtime are my personal favorites and one of the best bands I have ever listened, especially in last ten years or so. I already reviewed their e.p. and interviewed them for this zine. For those that don´t already know, Hangtime play melodic punk rock mixed with pop punk and their sweet melodies, super choruses and harmonies, topped with great lyrics are about to win any punk rock heart. Their four songs are just making me play on repeat over and over again. Altitude are from Belgium and they deliver four songs of epic, melodic punk rock with lots of pop punk influences, more of 2000s melodic punk style and they do it great and I really enjoyed discovering this great band. They are a bit faster in some songs, more skatepunk like in awesome Riley. The Huile are from France and their four songs are a bit shorter and a bit different sounding, like nineties punk rock drawn from noise and alternative and indie influences, sounding definitely interesting and a bit different than previous two bands, sometimes even a little bit weird haha but that diversity is beauty of our scene.

So, go and support PCT Musique and get some really wonderful music!

(review) Streets To Ourselves – Suspension Of Disbelief

Streets To Ourselves is a solo project of singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Daniel Peachy. This is debut full length record and it offers 10 songs. Well, to get away from all the more noisy and more harsher music that is usually the case in this zine, this record offers more kind and milder, more emotional side of punk rock bordering with pop punk.

I am talking about gentle melodies, topped with Daniel´s beautiful, almost ethereal voice, lyrics and music that pick up your torn darkened soul and take you to some other place and time, where there is no pain, no stress, no rush, only beauty and inner satisfaction. Music is mid tempo pop punk rock but there are also some beautiful atmospheric acoustic parts like in one of my favorites called Black Spring with that piano and sad melancholic guitar melody. Also, Space Coyote and Flair For The Dramatic are my favorites and highlights on this record. If you love melancholy in music, punk rock with heart and soul and intensity, yet soothing and somehow relaxing, check this beautiful record out.

(review) Doghouse Rose – The Harder They Fall (Stomp Records)

cover

It is always super to discover new fantastic band on a Saturday morning while drinking your coffee and listening to music that arrived recently. Doghouse Rose are coming from Toronto, Canada and this is their new record containing 11 songs of beautiful, melodic pop punk/melodic punk with some psycho influences behind it all, well hidden in the back but I can hear it. If I must describe the music, it would be a mixture of The Creepshow and Kitty in a Casket, but with some more pop punk influenced song structures. The vocals are fantastic, the singer sounds so sweet, yet sharp in more dramatic parts of the songs and I love every single second of this record. The backing vocal harmonies are important to me, they are also done superbly and without any flaw, music stays with you long after finishing listening to the record, making you want more and more. Great band, sure to become one of my favorites very soon!

Recommended songs as my highlights: Dark Days, Misery Train, Drinking About You.
