(review) Big Noter – Songs In The Key Of Wrestling

Wow! What a cool name for a debut album! I love wrestling still and watch it every week, so this was a mandatory listen when it came out. This is a project by known Australian rapper Adam Briggs, who formed a hardcore punk band because DIY spirit is similar between punk, hardcore and hip hop. This one contains eleven songs. Album starts with super song My Genocide which is for me more hardcore music than punkrock. The music is groove just made for moshing and jumping around. Vocals are tough and rough fitting perfectly to the rawer song structure. What I like about this record is it’s rawness and diversity. Basically it’s hardcore and made for jumping around, aggressive and almost metallic in breakdowns, but it also has some RATM vibes, hardcore hip hop vibes and good old NYHC vibes, also kinda reminded me of Aussie hardcore legends Deez Nuts. There are couple of prominent guests on this album, namely Chuck D, Tom Morello and Joe Talbot. This record totally surprised me and made my day. My personal favorites are Talk Straight, What Ya Swingin’ At and What’s The Matter With Adam?, the song I can totally relate to. So, if you like your hardcore groovy, breakdowns, seasoned with little hip hop, raw guitar work and good songwriting, check this beauty out.
